James is an international relations and local and regional governance expert with 20 years experience in project and programme development and delivery, stakeholder relationship management, event and visit management and policy advice to senior executives and politicians.
With an in-depth knowledge of the local government and the wider public sector arena, James has a track record of delivering high quality, high profile innovative work at national, European and international levels and working in partnership with UK Government Departments, the European Union, United Nations, World Bank and other international institutions.
Previously, as the International Programme Manager at the Local Government Association, he established the LGA as one of the leading international institutions engaged in local government capacity building and international development.
With considerable experience in post conflict and post disaster reconstruction, stabilisation and operating in politically challenging environments, James is currently the Managing Director of Newlands Consultancy Ltd, an international relations consultancy working in partnership with Dods Training to provide bespoke and tailored training packages and study visit programmes focused on UK local and regional government experience for international clients. Recent collaboration has included developing training and study visit programmes for the Danish Government on environmental policies and the Turkish Government on national and local services for the disabled.
